Mar Roxas

Last week, I went with Inquirer.Net reporter Alex Villafania do an interview with Senator Mar Roxas about how New Media and the internet impacts his work as a legislator. He goes on to discuss blogging, micro-blogging, internet research, social networking, and even butterflies in Brazil. They recently uploaded the video on Inquirer.Net Videos and I wanted to share it with everyone here so you can get a better idea of how “techie” Mr. Palengke is.

PASAY CITY, Philippines — Although he was popularly known as Mr. Palengke, Senator Manuel Roxas III is now living up to another image — that of someone techie. After having co-chaired the Information Technology and E-Commerce Council and advocating the E-Commerce Act in 2000, Roxas discusses with INQUIRER.net community evangelist Alex Villafania how he utilizes the Internet for his political campaigns. Roxas claims that the Internet is a “pipeline” where Filipinos can significantly participate and contribute to the 2010 presidentiables, similar to what the American constituents did with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton vying for the democratic presidential nomination. However because of the low per capita income in the country, Roxas predicts that the contribution Filipinos can make over the Internet would be much lower when compared to the Obama and Clinton online campaigns.
